OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Building on a Tradition of Excellence in a community filled with Warrior Pride, the mission of the Smithville School District is to educate and prepare all students for their future by providing relevant, engaging opportunities for each student to reach their unique and full potential.

OUR ACADEMICS

FEEDING KNOWLEDGE & CREATIVITY

Smithville Schools are where knowledge and creativity go hand in hand for a well-rounded education. Teachers and students challenge each other with questions and find the answers together.

All students are equal and enjoy academic opportunities designed just for them, whether that means taking college classes in high school, a middle school student taking high school classes or an elementary student receiving extra help with reading. What happens in the classroom is just the beginning of preparing students for a lifetime of learning.

KINDNESS IS A NATURAL PART OF OUR CURRICULUM

Education is more than gaining knowledge and expressing creativity. It’s going to a school where kindness and community are just as important as academics. It’s students expecting the best from themselves and each other while genuinely caring for one another and their community.

OUR STUDENTS

Warrior Students arrive each day excited to learn. That quality begins at home. Ask any of our teachers and they will tell you that parental support is strong and appreciated. With faculty and parent support, students are involved and truly interested in learning.

At 22.3 our district-wide composite score exceeds the state and national averages and ranks #5 in the Kansas City metro. Since 2015, three students have achieved a perfect ACT score of 36.

ACTIVITIES, ATHLETICS & CLUBS

At Smithville Schools, we pride ourselves on having something for everyone. Students have the opportunity to participate in an array of different athletics, activities, and clubs; ranging from football, volleyball, and cross country to robotics, gaming club, and speech/debate. Coaches and sponsors are committed to raising the bar everyday. It is not uncommon to hear of a Smithville team earning awards and accolades. Our students, staff, and community show great pride and support for our schools.

1:1 TECHNOLOGY

One-to-one technology allows us to provide rich and engaging learning opportunities for our students. We envision students using the District device to gain real-world skills. Technology is used in some way in every classroom, from Kindergarten through 12th grade. But, the devices should inspire, not replace critical thinking.

NEW TEACHER SUPPORT

Support for new teachers is critical to ensuring a successful start to the teaching profession and serving in the Smithville School District. This support begins before school even starts with our New Certified Staff Orientation. During this time, we introduce new certified staff members to curriculum and instruction expectations as well as help them get acclimated to the school building.

Throughout the year, teachers new to the profession will work closely with their mentor teacher who is assigned to them for two years. Mentor Teachers provide support inside and outside of the classroom. New teachers are also invited to use designated time throughout the school year to visit the classrooms of veteran teachers. Our monthly New Teacher Training program consists of some whole group teacher development, but consists mostly of one-on-one sessions with instructional coaches to customize the learning to each individual teacher’s needs.

CHILDREN'S SERVICE FUND GRANT - The Smithville School District is receiving grant funds through the Children's Service Fund Grant to purchase services and supplies to protect the well-being and safety of children and to strengthen families.

PARENT GROUPS - Smithville School District proudly has very active Parent Groups that support our buildings. It is not uncommon for a group to stock the lounge or deliver surprise treats.
